Our first stop this morning found us at the AIC Girls’ school in the Kajiado district of Maasailand. This is a boarding school with over 700 girls of primary school age. The Grand Circle Foundation involvement included the construction of a new dormitory to accommodate girls in the Maasai rescue program. This is a refuge for girls who run away from their villages to avoid circumcision (FGM) and early marriage. Many cannot return and the school then becomes their home until they finish their education. The girls thrive on contact with visitors from other countries and I think the visit brings a new understanding to First World educators about the challenges of teaching in rural Africa. I’ll post some pics of our visit in a few days…

Thanks to all those who support girls from AIC, i was a student there and understand what the young girls go through. I am currently pursuing my masters and I believe there is great potential from the girls.
Thanks for an update from Kajiado. It’s good to see the smiling girls again after almost a year and a half. I correspond with an 8th grader there, who well may be in one of these pictures. She loves school and has such lofty ambitions. Thank goodness for Grand Circle’s support of the school and for the travelers who have been so moved by experiences at Kajiado they they continue supporting the girls!
