Peter and Peggy Valentine, old (as in ‘experienced’) hands at bike touring, joined me for 2 days of biking in the Cape as part of their (or should I say, Peggy’s) African safari. The first day coincided with one of the Cape’s hottest days this summer. The 40oC Greyton heat slowed us but didn’t stop us as we cruised through Genadendal just as the local Moravian community was spring-cleaning the church for Advent. Lunch at the Oak ‘n Vigne was a fresh, healthy affair, followed by a generous helping of home-made, full cream, ice-cream and van Geusau chocolate.
Day two was a lot more forgiving as we hit the tar in the Slanghoek Valley. A warm north-westerly wind (yes, it appears there is such a thing..) pushed us gently through the valley to finish in Rawsonville before heading to Christine at Mountain Oaks for lunch.
